Privacy

Privacy, in plain language.

Last updated: October 2026. Kaptin is built local-first: your projects, conversations, and credentials live on your computer. This page explains what stays local, what leaves your machine, and why.

What stays on your computer

  • Project files — Kaptin works directly on folders you choose. We never sync, copy, or back up your code to our servers.
  • Conversations — your chat history with agents is stored locally in the app's data directory.
  • Agent credentials — API keys and CLI login tokens are kept on your machine in your operating system's secure credential store (Keychain, Credential Manager, or Secret Service).

What leaves your machine

  • Agent requests — prompts, files the agent reads, and screenshots you attach are sent to the AI provider you chose (e.g. Anthropic, OpenAI, Meta, or your local Ollama service) so it can do the work. Each provider processes that content under its own terms and privacy policy.
  • Account & subscription — your email address and subscription status, so we can sign you in and manage your trial and billing. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your card number.
  • Update checks — the app periodically checks for new versions. These requests carry your app version and platform, nothing personal.
  • Support messages — anything you send via the contact form or email, so we can reply.

This website

kaptin.dev sets no tracking cookies and runs no third-party trackers. We record privacy-conscious, aggregate conversion events (such as download clicks) without collecting personal data, and we honor Do Not Track. Your light/dark theme choice is stored in your own browser only.

Your choices

  • Use Ollama or another local provider to keep agent work entirely on your machine.
  • Delete local app data any time by removing the project or the app's data directory.
  • Ask us to delete your account data by emailing hello@kaptin.dev.
