Help & troubleshooting.
Installation guidance, agent setup, updates, and billing — plus a way to reach us when none of it covers your case.
Installing Kaptin
Download the installer for your OS from the download page and run it. macOS may ask you to confirm opening a newly downloaded app (System Settings → Privacy & Security); Windows may show a SmartScreen prompt on first run — both are standard for new desktop apps.
System requirements: a recent macOS, Windows 10+, or a modern 64-bit Linux distribution, plus enough disk space for your projects.
Setting up agents
Open Settings → Agents in Kaptin. For each agent (Claude, Codex, Muse, OpenCode, Ollama) you can sign in with the agent's CLI subscription or paste an API key. When you're signed in with a subscription, Kaptin prefers it; otherwise it uses your API key.
On your first prompt, Kaptin will ask you to connect the agent if nothing is configured yet.
API keys & sign-in problems
If an agent reports it's not connected: check Settings → Agents for that agent's status, verify the API key is pasted completely (no extra spaces), and confirm your provider account or CLI subscription is active. Keys are stored on your machine in your OS credential store — re-entering a key overwrites the old one.
Ollama runs locally: make sure the Ollama service is running on your machine first.
Updating Kaptin
Updates arrive automatically in the app — you'll see a prompt when a new version is ready, and installing takes a restart. Your projects, conversations, and settings are preserved across updates.
Subscription & billing
Your Kaptin subscription covers the workspace app; model usage is billed separately by your agent providers. Manage or cancel your subscription anytime via the manage-subscription link — access continues until the end of your billing period, and trials cancelled within 7 days are never charged.
Where is my data?
Projects, conversations, and credentials live on your computer. Content you send to an agent is processed by that agent's provider under their terms. Details on the privacy page.
